Microgrid Controller Simulation

How should a microgrid serve demand when solar, battery, and grid power have limits?

Completed · Tested · 2026

Context

It makes each dispatch decision inspectable and reports unserved load instead of hiding an impossible energy balance.

Design problem

How should a microgrid serve demand when solar, battery, and grid power have limits?

Approach

Serve load from solar, charge from surplus, discharge within battery limits, and cap imports before reporting unmet demand.

Validation

A unittest suite and inspectable dispatch decisions with explicit energy-balance error and unserved load.

Result

Dispatch reports expose each decision and account for unserved load instead of masking an impossible power balance.

Limitations

Supervisory simulation only. Voltage dynamics, reactive power, protection, thermal behavior, and communications delay are omitted.

What I would improve next

A future model could examine the voltage, frequency, and protection dynamics omitted by the supervisory simulation.

Repository & documentation

Documentation checked Sep 3, 2026. The summaries describe the repository’s validation approach; they do not claim new hardware or deployment results.
